Demon SFX Initial Ideas

Maria's Ideas:

My first initial idea (which is currently crossed out) depicts three scratches across the face and unusually long eyelashes. I immediately discarded this idea as it didn't look disturbing or scary enough and the long eyelashes looked more luscious than intimidating.
My second initial idea illustrates an aged face with black holes for the eyes and mouth, multiple scars and wild hair. This is, personally, my favourite of my three ideas as it's very demented and, if we can pull it off, should terrify the audience. My last initial idea was to have a darkened mouth, nose and eyes in addition to black lines across the face. I thought that by darkening the face in this way the demon would look particularly creepy however I did feel that it lacked some gore.

Danielle's Ideas:

My initial idea included a black gradient starting from the bottom of the face and getting lighter as it reaches the top as I believe this creates a frightening look. The veins underneath the eye would also be highlighted black and the lips coated in a thick layer of matt black lipstick. The colour black emphasises the dark and scary aspect of the supernatural creature. My second idea incorporated dark black circles around the eyes and black stitches around the mouth. Although challenging to create, this makeup creates the effect of a real supernatural creature and I believe would look very creative and interesting. The dark black makeup around the eyes allow the sclera part of the eye to stand out and I imagine it will create a very scary look. It also will showcase our ability with makeup and SFX to create such a complicated look.

Jessica's Ideas:

Out of my four initial ideas, I think my first is the most effective. Throughout the majority of my designs, raised/black veins feature. I think this would be effective as it would show that the creature is not human, and is responsible for the supernatural activity that has occurred so far throughout the opening up until the point of the demon's reveal. This effect would be difficult to produce however, and consume a lot of time. I think that it would also be particularly fitting for the demon to have either completely black or white eyes. This would also help to further establish the villain as 'other', and undeniably supernatural. This could be easily done with coloured contact lenses, and would not consume much time at all. I think that my second design does not work well with our plot line, as the symbol on the chest gives the impression of a cult, hinting at 'witch' more than 'demon'. Therefore, I think we should not include symbols like that in our creature SFX makeup, and instead use more subtle, supernatural elements in our makeup, as displayed in my first and fourth designs.
