Media Institutions And Final Company Choice
This blog posts lists some of the most notable film institutions. As well as explaining a little information about them, I have included some examples of their work. The aim of this was to discover which institution best fitted our horror film opening.
Twisted Pictures
Twisted Pictures is an American Production Company founded in 2004. This film institution is best known for the production of the well renowned 'Saw' series. As well as producing 'Saw' the company also produced various other psychological horror films such as 'Dead Silence' and 'Mother's day'. Example: 'Dead Silence' Opening
This opening contained a range of different music components that interested us and served as inspiration for our film opening. We also liked the various close-ups and shaky camera movement that confused the audience as to what was going on. The post production effects and filters on the text and throughout the opening created a creepy atmosphere.

Example: 'Sinister' Opening
This opening was especially 'sinister' as it contained nothing but a family of four being hanged on a tree. This immediate jump into the action shocked the audience. The lack of sound apart from the rolling and flicker of the camera was very unsettling and made the audience feel on edge.
Dark Castle Entertainment
Dark Castle Entertainment is an American film production label founded in 1999. The label gives homage to William Castle, a horror filmmaker during the 1950/60's. Some of Dark Castle's most notable work includes 'Orphan', 'House Of Wax' and 'The Reaping'.
Example: 'House Of Wax' Opening
The close up's of the wax being poured into the moulds unsettles and confuses the audience of the context of the scene. As the father enters with a screaming child, the pitch of the music increased to signify the chaos in the kitchen as well as the smashing of various wax works that were laid on the table. A final slap to the boys face from his mother shocks the audience as they process what has just happened.

This is one of the most iconic horror film openings of all time and for good reason. Intense use of music and camera angles have the audience on the edge of their chairs.
